Rafael Candela

Born in 1998, an Italian-Brasian, Rafael Candela is a young dancer and performer. He has collaborated in Italy and abroad with choreographers such as Alexis Vassiliou, Simona Bertozzi, Sharon Fridman, Noa Zuk, Ariella Vidach, Petra Fornayova, BTT Balletto Teatro di Torino and others.

He trained as a dancer at the “Paolo Grassi” School in Milan, graduating in 2021, the year in which he was selected in the College of the Venice Theater Biennale, collaborating with Hungarian choreographer Adrienn Hod.

In 2022 he receives on “DanceWEB” scholarship at the Impulstanz Festival in Vienna and collaborates with Massimo Monticelli on the finalist project at DNA Appunti Coreografici. From 2024 he began collaborating with DYES Collective, an artistic formation born within Dartmouth College in Vermont.

Parallel to her work as a performer, she began to delve into her own research on movement and the exploration of urban space. His first work, Forrest, is programmed in festivals such as Dominio Pubblico, Fuori Festival/Festival di Spoleto, Ammutinamenti, Festival Danza Urbana, Mirabilia Festival Europeo, Emersi Festival. Also awarded by the participatory artistic direction of Dominio Pubblico, he is hosted in residence the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris.
